Steak & Cheese English Muffin

The perfect ending for some left over steak - or the prefect sandwich for a nicely grilled brand new steak! Either way I think you're going to like this tasty sandwich!

This recipe is perfect for left over steak! All you really need is some sliced up steak, your favorite cheese, some onions, and peppers. Then add what you want for bonus flavor. I'm probably going to toss in something along the lines of jalapenos. That's a given.

Bring On The Muffin!

But, why stick with boring bread or your typical bun? How about using a breakfast staple such as an English Muffin? English muffins, regular or wheat, offer some great texture when toasted on the grill. It's a nice touch to a sandwich that already will be a mouthful due to the steak and added veggies. 

Starting from Scratch!

If you don't happen to have a chuck of extra steak wrapped up in the fridges then here's the recipe for starting from scratch. I picked up a nice looking sirloin knowing that I had some advance time from when I was planning on grilling up this sandwich. I wanted an affordable cut as apposed to a pricier cut such as a tender Rib Eye. Don't get me wrong, a rib eye would ROCK with this sandwich... but the sirloin substitutes very well.

Overnight Marinade:

If you go with the sirloin, or even a lesser cut, then consider an overnight marinade session. I rubbed my sirloin down with healthy dashes of

  • cracked pepper
  • salt.

I then lightly coated with a combination of

  • Worcestershire sauce
  • steak sauce
  • with a splash of Tennessee Whiskey.

Cover, chill overnight. You might want to turn them once or twice if possible.

Hit the Grill! - Grill as you normally would over medium high heat. You don't want to over cook as you still are going to slice that baby up and place it on the grill again as a part of a sandwich. Shoot for a medium, medium well. A nice sliver of pink steak is not a bad thing.

Toss your additional items in a grilling basket with a little butter and seasonings and get those on the grill as well. Go ahead and slice the English muffins, lightly buttered, and add those sliced side down right before you pull everything off the grill.

  • Onion
  • Pepper, red or Green, or jalapeno
  • Garlic powder
  • Cracked pepper
  • Melted butter
  • English muffins

Making your Sandwich!

Grab the steak off the grill, slice against the grain like you would a London Broil and build your sandwich along with the seasoned and grilled veggies. Top with a more than healthy helping of cheese slices. Gently return the whole thing to the grill to add some grill marks to the muffin if desired. Serve up hot!
